James Baroud Explorer Rooftop Tent

The Explorer Evolution features the popular design of the Evasion Evolution but adds an integrated storage tray on the upper shell, with six tie-down points to assist in securing your cargo. The luggage rack on top of the tent gives you more space inside your vehicle by allowing you to store those large, bulky items (like camp chairs or tables) on top of the tent instead of inside the vehicle. In addition to the 360-degree windows, ventilation can be assisted by the solar powered ventilation system in extreme conditions. Access to the tent is easily gained by using the telescoping ladder that comes standard with all James Baroud rooftop tents.

All James Baroud roof top tents fit to the roof bars of most vehicles and can be removed and stored when not needed and the hard shell tents are covered by a 5 year guarantee on the fabric, hull and mechanism.

The Hard Shell
The hard shell is manufactured in fiberglass fortified polyester and the bottom has provisions to hold the aluminum ladder.

The fixation to the vehicle is made by two aluminium rails, built-in the under with six fixing points (M8 screws and self-locking bolts).

Automatic Opening & Closing
We promise you that not only is there no other tent that opens as easily and as quickly on the market today – but closes as well. Opening the tent is automatic and nearly effortless thanks two AL-KO struts that opens the tent automatically in 5 seconds. All you have to do is release the catches!

Closing the tent is nearly as easy – just close the top half of the shell and by hand and the fabric sides are automatically drawn into the hull by the elasticized seam. Secure the latches and you’re done. All in all – it takes around 15 seconds to completely close and latch the top shell to the bottom and you’re ready to continue down the trail!

Durability & Weatherproof
No one wants to be caught in a storm while in a rooftop tent. Combine heavy rain with high winds – it makes even the toughest adventurers cringe. While we hope you never find yourself in the situation, you can sleep in confidence knowing that James Baroud tents are waterproof and tested up to 74mph (120Km/hr).

The Canvas
The canvas is dark gray made of six (6) aluminized coats that reflect the sun’s ray. This is critical as in warmer climates a rooftop tent without the ability to reflect heat and air ventilation will turn into an oven. The canvas is also UV resistant, 100% waterproof but allows air to circulate to resist mildew – a common occurrence with other materials in wet climates. All seams are doubled for the utmost ruggedness and are 100% watertight.

The canvas is fitted under cabling in curved aluminum guides towards the outside of the shell, ensuring a perfect waterproofing and a strong wind resistance, even with wind gusts of 75mph. The door closes with a velcro strip for a perfect impermeability and the awning for the windows are mounted on cables and velcro to increase the protection agains wind and rain.

This roof top tent has windows/doors with a James Baroud Mosquito Net stiched right into the fabric. The Mosquito Net is made of a great resistance, it is so strong it was tested towing a 4x4 vehicle and can be used as a hammock.

All the zippers have rubber cursors, a simple system so it can be very silent even with heavy wind.

The Mattress
The mattress is made from a high density foam and comes with a heavy duty zipped cover.  

Ladder
The ladder is adjustable to the vehicle height and flexible to match the movement when people move inside the tent. With non-slip and ergonomic steps, it is sent with a bag made of our canvas and PVC, to avoid sand and water going inside the tent.

It has a lock mechanism after attached so it doesn't fall even with high winds and rain, it also has a rubber finishing in the bottom so it sticks to every terrain.

Lighting
The James Baroud Evasion Evolution comes with a 15 high intensity LED indoor light which doubles as a removable rechargeable flashlight. All wiring is supplied with the tent. The flashlight has an unbreakable polycarbonate lens and a battery charge indicator.

Ventilation
If you’ve owned a rooftop tent or known someone who has; you know how hot a rooftop tent can get. You also know how one that stays on the roof may develop a mildew smell. Standard with James Baroud tents, it comes with an automatic and silent MCV (motorized controlled ventilation) which is powered by a 24 hour life battery which can be recharged by an integrated solar panel kit. This MCV has the capacity of 11.6 M3/mn (2905 UK gal/mn) and prevent all condensation and remove stored heat to avoid moisture and mold.

A second propeller is supplied with reverse blades to act as a fan. The fans are easily exchanged from inside the James Baroud Evasion Evolution roof top tent.

Interior Storage
The hard shell roof top tents are featured with a storage net on the upper part of the interior.

Lock
The James Baroud lock system has a mechanism that makes impossible to open accidentally. To open it you need to firmly press both sides and pull it up.

Rubber Handle
Our roof top tents have a resistant and ergonomic rubber handle on the side to make it easier to open and close it.
